More global warming rabidity from Flannery; selfish old people

Cartoon: by Pickering

Climate Commissioner Tim Flannery has made so many outrageous, ludicrous, irrational, and totally incorrect predictions of doom, desolation, and despair that he is regarded as a standing joke in the rational community. He still has the support of the Greens and government, not because he is credible, but because he suits their agenda, which means that we continue to pay him generously.

Were there a carbon tax applied to hyperbole, Tim would be one of the biggest contributors to the governments coffers owing to the massive emissions from all of those straw men he burns, something that Tim Blair alludes to in exposing his latest wild statement:

Millionaire climate commissioner and Panasonic advocate Tim Flannery describes some of the people he’s met during his tax-funded $1153 per day panic tour:

I’ve met some older people who say, “I don’t give a damn about this. I don’t care whether climate change is going to devastate my children’s future. For a start, I don’t have any children, and I just want to live my last few years really well and not give a stuff about this …” That sort of selfishness can only be dealt with at the community level.

But for every one like that I meet ten people who actually do care, who love their children and value them.

So, according to Flannery, fully nine per cent of attendees at his nationwide climate chats are elderly folk with no children and no love at all for any children. It could just be that Flannery is slightly exaggerating again
The main concern of older people, especially those with limited means is simply whether they will be able to make ends meet in the light of a government policy to deliberately increase energy prices, something Flannery enthusiastically supports. It is unlikely that 10% of people claim not to care about their children; this is Tim’s perception of what they mean, a reflection of his condescension towards those questioning his agenda.

An example of this type of thinking can be found on his website, One people, one empire, one leader One World, One Humanity, One Destiny, relating to nuclear power:
The issue of whether nuclear power has a role in the future energy mix is often raised by climate sceptics. Their objective may be to divide the environmental community, or to ‘test’ the rationality of the speaker. …
Some of his more hyperbolic predictions are; what little rain does fall will not fill river systems and dams, Adelaide, Sydney and Brisbane would need desalinated water possibly in as little as 18 months, (Adelaide running out of water by 2009), beaches will disappear, eight story buildings with the waves lapping their roofs, and the extra special doozie:
“This planet, this Gaia, will have acquired a brain and a nervous system. That will make it act as a living animal, as a living organism, at some sort of level.”
Even a dedicated statist would have a difficult job maintaining the need to have a government in order to keep this person employed.

  1. What a waste of money the Australian government is spending on this ridiculous buffoon. No state should subsidize the rantings of crazy people like Flannery.
