ACORN Prostitution racket ends funding at last.

The Senate voted on Monday to prevent Acorn, the group whose employees were caught on a hidden camera recently giving tax advice to people who said they wanted to run a brothel involving underage prostitutes from El Salvador, from receiving federal housing grants from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Obama has had a long association with this group.

The vote passed by 83 – 7 with the only opponents being, Roland W. Burris D IL, Bob Casey D PA, Richard J. Durbin D IL, Kirsten Gillibrand D NY, Sheldon Whitehouse D RI, Patrick J. Leahy D VT, Bernard Sanders I VT.

Up to this point, nearly 70 ACORN employees have been convicted in 12 states for voter registration fraud, and Pennsylvania judge Richard Zoller--after holding a low-level ACORN employee liable for election law violations noted that "somebody has to go after ACORN.''

ACORN has evaded taxes, obstructed justice, and aided and abetted a cover-up of embezzlement by Dale Rathke, the brother of ACORN founder Wade Rathke. By refusing to report Dale Rathke's embezzlement of $948,607.50 as an excess benefit transaction, ACORN appears to have violated the Internal Revenue Code. ACORN's cover-up of the embezzlement for more than eight years would also constitute obstruction of justice.

Last week, Miami-Dade prosecutors issued arrest warrants for 11 ACORN employees who are to be charged with falsifying voter registration cards. Up to this time however the flow of government funds seemed likely to continue, even though most of their criminal activities were known to the government. An 88-page incriminating report published in July by the minority staff of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform was entitled “Is ACORN Intentionally Structured as a Criminal Enterprise?”

It has taken proof that they were willing to go completely beyond all decent behavior in assisting to set up a teenage prostitution racket to get something done about it.

The Census Bureau notified ACORN on Friday that it is severing all ties with the group for all work having to do with the 2010 census. Notwithstanding the fact that is long overdue, I applaud them for that action. They stated, “it is clear that ACORN's affiliation with the 2010 Census promotion has caused sufficient concern in the general public, has indeed become a distraction from our mission, and may even become a discouragement to public cooperation, negatively impacting 2010 Census efforts. Unfortunately, we no longer have confidence that our national partnership agreement is being effectively managed through your many local offices. For the reasons stated, we therefore have decided to terminate the partnership.”

Acorn has over the years received around $ 53 Million in federal funds, and has been likely to receive $8.5 billion in stimulus funds. Last week the Census Bureau told Acorn that it no longer wanted the group’s assistance for the 2010 census. Hopefully that situation will end with this.

  1. But if they pull funding from ACORN, who will represent the oppressed legions of illegal, deceased, and ficitonal voters?
