Obama, more imaginary events.

This one comes from Eric Dondero at Libertarian Republican.

Getting a lot of attention in the blogosphere and rightwing media this morning is an ABC News interview with Barack Obama were he makes a stunning gaffe admitting to his Muslim background. Less noticed though, is another major gaffe in the same interview.

Obama says that he actually considered joining the Military and made a point of saying that he signed up for Selective Service "in 1979." Only problem is the Selective Service requirement for young men did not go into effect until 1981. Obama could have signed up for a lot of things in 1979, but none of them could have been Selective Service. – ED
The “my Muslim faith” part could be considered a gaffe, however the Selective Service part can not be. This statement is an ongoing part of the long standing credibility problem the candidate tends to exhibit frequently.

Obama seems to invent ‘facts’ on a regular basis.

It is difficult to understand this other than as a person who has done nothing that the American people other than those who consider themselves to be the elite can admire, perhaps he feels the need to present himself as having something in common with mainstream America.

Such things have to be made up.

I took the liberty of checking in case Eric had got it wrong and went to,
About.com:US Military,” “Background of Selective Service” and found the following: -

In 1973, the draft ended and the U.S. converted to an All-Volunteer military.
The registration requirement was suspended in April 1975. It was resumed again in 1980 by President Carter in response to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Registration continues today as a hedge against underestimating the number of servicemen needed in a future crisis.

Obviously Eric is quite correct on this, and maybe Obama WTF need to add this.
